I am Pooja Dedhia, your dance instructor for the coming days. I feel incredibly honored that you chose to visit my class, and I am looking forward to sharing my skills with all of you. I dearly hope that you are excited as well! If you want to get to know me further, keep reading.

I started my dance journey out of passion and stayed for the immense love I received from all of my students. I am a choreographer with extensive knowledge and experience in various dance forms. I am well versed with appropriate movements, gestures & body language to portray a character, theme, and dance. I have completed my training in Bharatanatyam and have been teaching various dance forms for almost 7 years now. Dance has now become my full-time job. Last year, I was incredibly fortunate to start my own dance company, “Natyam Pooja”. I take online and offline classes, private and group classes, sangeets, corporate celebrations, annual days, and other such events. Think of this as your one-stop destination to dance! I teach almost all kinds of dance styles, from Semiclassical to Finger tutting, Garba to Contemporary. Name it, and I shall deliver. I also cater to all age groups. My students range from children to their mothers. I have a Master's degree in Psychology as well, making me an understanding and supportive teacher, especially for your younglings. 

Now that I've introduced myself let me tell you the importance of this performance art and why dance should be a part of your routine. Dance helps you to be in tune with your emotions and use your natural energy to revitalize your body. Dancing can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. It improves your motor skills, tones your muscles, increases strength, endurance, and fitness. It is also a great way to meet new friends!

This dance tutorial is a cocktail of multiple styles that I've choreographed, especially for kids and beginners. The steps are soft, easy, and breezy. I've tried to use simple steps inspired by the Contemporary dance style. Contemporary dance is pulled out from traditional dance styles like Ballet & Jazz but breaks away from the strict techniques and movements that make those styles so recognizable. When watching a Contemporary routine, you'll catch many of the moves executed in more traditional styles, acrobatics, martial arts, movements pulled from yoga, and plenty of experimental movements that reflect the dancer's feelings. 

Dance allows you to connect with yourself physically and artistically, and if that's something you're looking for, you've come to the right place! As you adopt the mindset of a Contemporary dancer, you'll learn how to communicate your emotions by moving every inch of your body with nuance and intention. You'll also improve your ability to create clean lines and aesthetically pleasing shapes as you dance. And if you're even a little familiar with other styles like Hip Hop, Popping, or House, adding Contemporary to your routine will strengthen your musicality skills.

And the fascinating part is that you'll learn how to think outside of the box, create pictures you've never tried before, and engage muscles you never knew you had.

What to wear while learning this routine?

Since this dance borrows a few steps from Contemporary style, which requires a wide range of motion and movements, wear clothes that won't restrict your body. For example, loose tops, pants, or shorts breezy enough to sweat in will work best. You can dance bare feet to feel fully connected to the floor, but wear socks if you intend to dance on rougher carpeted surfaces or glide around on the floor.

How to prep your dance space?

If you're taking a Contemporary dance class at home, make sure there is enough space to practice in and get rid of any sharp edges that are lurking nearby. This will allow you to jump, turn, and move without any worries of bumping your shin on that pesky coffee table or tripping over an awkward rug.

Tip: Please keep drinking water between the classes to stay hydrated. Ensure you have water access near you while you practice, so you don't have to take unnecessary breaks between the classes. Also, make sure to consume only one or two sips at a time to avoid stomach aches because we need to jump, rotate and exercise.
