A polynomial is a mathematical expression including a sum of powers in at least one variables multiplied by coefficients.
An algebraic expression having only one, two and three terms are respectively called monomial, binomial and trinomial. The highest power of the variable in a polynomial is called the degree of the polynomial. A polynomial whose degree is one is called a linear polynomial. A polynomial whose degree is two is called a quadratic polynomial. The expression which contains one or more terms with non-zero coefficient is known as a polynomial. The highest power in a univariate polynomial is called its order, or in some cases its degree.
