In this digital era, online learning has emerged as the go-to solution for schools. As online classes also known as virtual classes are convenient, kids enjoy them and can attend them in their own comfort. All that it takes is a smartphone (which nowadays kids have their own) or laptop and a good internet connection. So the need for physically going to school and attending the classes with utmost concentration is reduced here.

There is a sudden rise in online schools and classes are in this Covid-19 lockdown. As many schools and education institutes are shut all across the world, it has put no other option in front of the schools than taking the classes online. As a result, education has changed dramatically whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms such as Google Meet, Zoom App, Skype, etc. have come forward as a saviour in this Covid-19 pandemic.

However, this has brought many challenges for us. Whether using online platforms really adding any value to kids’ education? Are students comfortable in using these online platforms or struggling with the increased screen time?

So every new challenge has some positive and negative aspects of it. With this sudden shift away from the classroom in many parts of the globe, some are wondering whether the adoption of online learning will continue to persist post-pandemic.

Well, we all know that nowadays kids use smartphones more than their parents do. So they are already comfortable and more knowledgeable to many apps, website, and other cyber stuff. But now because of the online schools and classes the screen time has drastically increased for kids. From morning till evening they have classes and then they attend other activity classes which are online too. So kids will spend more time studying and completing assignments in the online environment than they will in an on-campus course. This digital shift may alienate economically disadvantaged students who don’t have access to the technology digital lessons require. Online courses create a sense of isolation too. Studying alone with only the computer as your companion can sometimes be terrifying. This may lead to becoming less social and can also decrease kids’ creativity.

Now that we have discussed some of the bleak aspects of online classes we surely know that these online platforms are also helping students grow in such challenging times of Covid-19 lockdown. Let us have a look at some of the positive effects of online schooling. Learning online can be more effective in a number of ways. Some research shows that on average, students retain 25-60% more material when learning online compared to only 8-10% in a classroom Students are becoming more and more aware of using internet and the various online platforms it offers. They are heading towards becoming smart netizens. This will help in being digitally aware. These online classes require the students to be an active learner and be more responsible for their learning process . If these kids desire to become responsible, self-sufficient, independently minded citizen of this planet, then now's the time to start.

So, one very important thing that has been made clear through this exchange of views is the importance of disseminating knowledge. If online learning can play a vital role here, it is incumbent upon the kids to explore its full potential.
