Learn Classification of Elements for Class 11
It is additionally classified into elements, compounds and mixtures dependent on composition. The components can be categorized into metals, non-metals and metalloids. Elements in the modern periodic table can be classified into four blocks viz., s-block, p-block, d-block and f-block depending on the type of atomic orbitals that are being filled with electrons. The table has seven rows and 18 columns. Each column speaks to one period; the period number of an element shows what number of its energy levels house electrons.
