Atom is a Greek word which signifies "indivisible". The Greeks accepted that matter could be separated into microscopic, invisible particles called atoms. The protons and neutrons make up the nucleus of the atom, which is surrounded by the electrons belonging to the atom. The atomic number of an element describes the total number of protons in its nucleus. Atomic Structure Chapter explained the nature of matter. He likewise suggested that all substances are comprised of matter. Structure of atom was obtained from the experiments on electrical release through gases.
