Who invented Vedic Math?

Vedic Mathematics is an ancient collection of tricks and techniques that can be applied quickly and accurately to arithmetic problems. The Vedas, specifically the Atharva Veda, are the source of Vedic Math.

It was revived between 1911 and 1918 by Indian mathematician Jagadguru Shri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji. This work was then published in 1965 in a book called Vedic Mathematics. 16 formulas (sutras) and 13 subsutras are contained within.

What is the history of Vedic Math?

Baba Bharati Krishna Tirtha was born in 1884 in Puri Village, Orissa, a state in India. The student excelled not only in mathematics but also in Science, Humanities, and Sanskrit. Meditation and spirituality were his passions.

While meditating in a forest near Singeri for eight years, he claims to have obtained knowledge of the Vedic Sutras. In the Atharva Veda and the Rig Veda, Krishna Tirtha learned the sutras. Therefore, it is called Vedic Mathematics.

Vedic Math Applications

Historically, Vedic Math simplifies multiplication, division, division by a factor of two, divisibility, complex numbers, square roots, cube roots, recurring decimals, and auxiliary fractions.

The following are some of the benefits of Vedic Maths:

1) Calculations are performed 10-15 times faster

2) Enabling more accurate guessing

3) Vedic math is useful to everyone

4) Reducing burden (only need to learn tables up to 9)
